A poem in sand, Jaisalmer's grandeur is difficult to parallel. Founded by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD, Jaislamer's remoteness kept it almost untouched by outside influence even during the British Raj. During Jaisalmer tour you will experience that very few cities can boast of the magnificence that defines Jaisalmer. Its yellow sandstone walls and bastions assume a golden hue in the afternoon sun, giving it its name name Sonar Kila or the Golden Fort. The fort stands about 100 metres over the city and has a citadel within its ramparts. The cobbled stone paths inside the fort make for a wonderful walk down history. Several entrances called Pols, including the Ganesh Pol, Suraj Pol, Bhoota Pol and the Hava Pol guard the Megh Durbar and the Jawahar Mahal. Apart from the fort, Jaisalmer tour offers you to visit the famous latticed Havelis (mansions). Finally, a visit to Jaisalmer is incomplete without a camel ride on the golden sand dunes to relish a magnificent sunset.
 

By Air: The nearest airport is Jodhpur (285 kms). There is an airport at Jaisalmer but that is managed by the Indian Air Force and is operational only from September to March.

By Road: Jaisalmer is well-connected to Bikaner and Jodhpur by good, motorable roads. There are luxury buses plying between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaipur. The main bus stand is located at a short distance from the railway station.

By Rail: Jaisalmer is easily accessible from Jodhpur. It is possible to connect to further destinations from Jodhpur. The Jaisalmer Railway Station is a 10-minute drive from Gadi Sagar Pol.
